“O people! Give in charity as a time will come upon you when a person will wander about with his object of charity and will not find anybody to accept it, and one (who will be requested to take it) will say, “If you had brought it yesterday, I would have taken it, but today I am not in need of it.” (Bukhari)
-The Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him]
We will be carrying out Qurbani in Pakistan, ensuring that all sacrifices are performed in accordance with Islamic guidelines. The meat will be distributed to vulnerable families, helping those who struggle to afford basic necessities.
Today, the vast majority of Muslim charitable giving in the UK is directed overseas. While global aid remains vital, there is a growing and urgent need to recognise the importance of supporting vulnerable individuals and families within our own communities. Local Zakat offers a powerful opportunity to address hardship closer to home while remaining fully aligned with Islamic principles.
Research has shown that British Muslims are among the most disadvantaged faith groups in the UK, facing high levels of poverty, unemployment, housing insecurity, and financial hardship. By paying Zakat locally, we can help resolve a growing problem by supporting eligible recipients in our communities who are struggling silently and often overlooked. Local Zakat also reconnects us with the Prophetic tradition. During the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Zakat was collected and distributed locally, ensuring that immediate community needs were met first. This approach strengthened social responsibility, unity, and accountability. It is also important to distinguish between Zakat and Sadaqah. Zakat has specific rules and eligible recipients and was traditionally distributed locally, while Sadaqah is voluntary charity that can be given anywhere in the world. By reviving the practice of Local Zakat, we honour our faith, uplift our communities, and ensure that this sacred obligation creates meaningful and lasting impact where it is needed most.

Knowing my donation reached people in real need gave me complete peace of mind and satisfaction.
I’ve donated monthly for a while now, and I really value the transparency and clear purpose behind every appeal.
The 100% donation policy was the reason I chose Drops of Mercy. It’s rare to find that level of trust and clarity.
The orphan sponsorship appeal really touched my heart. It feels like you’re giving a child stability, not just charity.”
Supporting clean water projects through Drops of Mercy has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Will donate again!
